A Worshipping Community Since 1669

This year we mark a remarkable milestone. Our chapel in Old Broughton Road was built in 1776, and 2026 is its 250th anniversary. But our story started even earlier. Baptists have been worshipping in Melksham since 1669 - through times of persecution, growth, war and change. When the present stone chapel was erected in 1776, it was built by a community determined to have a permanent home for worship, prayer and service.

250 Years of Witness.

Think of what these walls have seen. Generations baptised, married, and comforted. Hymns sung in candlelight and now with modern sound. Children who once sat in our Sunday School are now worshipping as adults. Through two world wars, through industrial change in Melksham, through joys and hardships - the chapel has stood as a place of hope.

We are not celebrating a building. We are celebrating faithfulness - God's faithfulness to us, and the faithfulness of ordinary people who kept the doors open, cleaned the chapel, taught the children, visited the sick, and shared food with neighbours.

That same spirit is alive today in our worship and in our outreach.

Join us for 2 Days of Celebratory Events and Displays

To mark 250 years, we are opening our doors for two days of celebration on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th November. There will be displays of our archives and photographs, stories from across the centuries, music, refreshments, and time to give thanks.

Whether you worshipped here as a child, moved away and remember the chapel fondly, or have never stepped inside - you are warmly welcome. Come and be part of the next chapter of our story.
